Slate & Tile Roofing

Natural slate, clay and plain tile roofing for West London's Victorian and Edwardian homes — laid traditionally and matched to the original covering.

Traditional roofing

The right covering for a period home

A pitched roof is only as good as the way it's laid. Slate and tile roofing rewards experience — the right gauge, the right fixings, properly formed valleys and lead detailing that all work together to shed water for decades.

We work across natural slate, clay and plain tile, whether that's re-covering a whole terrace roof, replacing a worn section, or renewing the valleys and flashings that usually fail first. On period and conservation-area homes we match the original so the finished roof looks like it was always there.

Slate & tile questions

How does slate roofing compare with tile roofing on cost and lifespan? +
Natural slate is more expensive to buy and lay than concrete or clay tile, but it's exceptionally long-lasting — a well-built slate roof can last a century. Clay tiles also last many decades and keep their colour. Concrete tiles are the most economical. The right choice usually comes down to the property, the conservation setting, and your budget.
What roofing materials suit a Victorian terrace in Fulham? +
Most of Fulham's Victorian and Edwardian terraces were originally slate or clay tile with lead valleys and flashings. Matching that original covering keeps the property looking right and is often expected in conservation areas. We source slates and tiles that match and lay them traditionally.
Can you match my existing slates or tiles? +
Yes. For repairs and part-roofs we match the size, colour and profile of your existing covering as closely as possible, using reclaimed or new materials to suit. For full roofs we help you choose a covering that's sympathetic to the property and the street.
Do you work on listed or conservation-area properties? +
Yes. A great deal of West London's housing sits within conservation areas, and some properties are listed. We work sympathetically with traditional materials and detailing to keep the character of the building intact.
